IGT casino software overview

International Game Technology (as they are known), are one of the larger casino software providers in the world. They are steadily increasing the games they provide the online gambling sites. IGT does fall behind leading developers, Microgaming, Playtech, and Net Entertainment in the sheer number of games they have developed, and their availability across online casino sites. That being said, IGT is still one – if not the most – dominant developer of land-based slots in the world. We look forward to seeing more online slots from them in the future. The more games the casino sites can offer, the more IGT casino bonus information we will give you!

History

IGT was formed when Boss Media changed its brand name to International Game Technology. Being a lot older than many of the young whipper-snappers darting about the casino world today, IGT began life as a developer of land-based slot and arcade machines. Even with the advent of online casino games, they were  not one of the first to jump ship, and dive into this market.

IGT didn’t actually make their move until 2004, when – due to changes in US gambling laws – WagerWorks were left ripe for the picking. IGT snapped up the company, and used them as their basis to enter the online casino world. Shortly afterwards, IGT decided to port its land-based classics over the casino world, and that has helped them grow and develop their brand on the digital casino stage. By 2011, WagerWorks were fully absorbed into IGT, and IGT rapidly began increasing the number of games they were offering to players, and at a larger number of casinos. Little else has changed since, and although they are not the biggest of the online slot developers out there, they maintain a healthy reputation as the kings of the land-based casino scene, and one of the most professional online slot developers, too.

Accessibility

IGT games can be found across the globe, although their largest audience happens to be based in Europe. IGT has a far more restricted market in North America. Despite the harsh US gambling laws, IGT has managed to swing deals with several New Jersey based casinos (and a few of the other sparsely spread, but regulated online casinos in the US) to offer games in the country. Few of the other top developers have made this move yet, breaking new ground for IGT.

IGT has not yet mastered the art of mobile casino games, preferring to make most of their major hits online only – save for their land-based cousins, of course. IGT also doesn’t really dabble in the side-games, table games, or live dealer game departments. They are mostly a developer of slot machines.

IGT’s games

As we’ve mentioned, IGT doesn’t really favour non-slot games. Their expertise lies in the reels of the slot, and that is what they spend most of their time focused on. Of course, this gives them a suitably more sizeable selection of online slots than other developers, even if they don’t release new online slot machine games as often.

IGT’s slots almost always features 5 reels (though there are exceptions), with the company developing very few classic slots based on a 3-reel structure. A handful of these slots are progressive, in that they do not have a capped jackpot. Most are non-progressive, though. IGT is not a developer of 3D slot machine games, and so their graphics can tend to be a little primitive or rustic. IGT does not rely on tasty graphics to survive, though. Their games are often ported directly from the land-based casino world, where they have already had a lot of success. By reputation alone, the slots tend to do well when they debut on the online casino platform.

IGT has developed a few branded and franchised slot machines over the years, such as Ghostbusters, Monopoly, Cluedo, and Wheel of Fortune. Most of their top slots tend to be of their own making, though. The best and most popular IGT slots include Rainbow Riches, Siberian Storm, Coyote Moon, Sumatran Storm, Cleopatra, Cats, Da Vinci Diamonds, Black Widow, In Bloom, and Wolf Run. Keep an eye out for these when looking for an IGT casino bonus.

IGT slot features

IGT’s slot machine games often contain more serious themes than you would find in other developers’ slots, such as nature, life, and occupations. Graphically, IGT is a little behind some of the other fancier developers. IGT slot graphics certainly aren’t bad, but in this day and age, we’d expect to see something a little sexier, and a little crisper from such a big name developer as this.

Most of their slots contain at least 5 reels and generally speaking, there can be anything from 20 paylines up to 1,024 ways to win. Understandably, there are exceptions to those limits. IGT is a stickler for not allowing you to alter your paylines, and being somewhat inflexible when it comes to wagering ranges. As a result, they often cost more to play than your run-of-the-mill slot from another developer.

Special features in IGT slots are often basic. There are usually wilds, scatters, and bonus icons. Generally speaking, it is the bonus icons which trigger bonus features such as free spin bonuses in IGT developed slots, not the scatter icons. Stacked symbols are also commonly found in IGT developed slot machines games.

The progressive jackpots in IGT slots are known as Mega Jackpots. You can find the applicable games by looking for the “Mega Jackpots” logo. IGT’s progressives are no picnic, with players often required to land 5 specific symbols on a specific payline to win the jackpot.

Casinos and IGT software

IGT doesn’t officially power any online casino themselves. Instead, their software is often offered in conjunction with other software developers, one of which will power the casino. By working in this manner, IGT have managed to get their casino games to crop up at some of the biggest casino sites on the net.

Some of the names involved include such giants as Bet365 Casino, BGO Casino, Sky Vegas, Bet Victor, LeoVegas, Mr Green Casino, and Vera & John Casino. As we’ve already mentioned, you won’t find table games, or live dealer titles from this casino software provider. Instead the average casino which offers IGT games tends to carry anything from 10 to 30 games from this developer, all of which are slots. It is possible that IGT games will make up the lion’s share of the progressive jackpot slots at a casino, though.
